Welcome to the Dan Bern Digital Archive. We love Bernstein's music, and we are happy to provide this library of MP3s to you at no charge. But we ask that you follow a few common-sense guidelines to make your downloads and those of others go smoothly, with minimal interruption.
This is a private server with limited bandwidth. While downloading can be quite fast, if you try to download several files at once (or if there are many people trying to grab files at the same time) the speed decreases precipitously. For that reason we ask that you please queue your downloads. Do not try to download more than one MP3 at a time.
We strongly recommend that you use an FTP client (rather than a web browser) to grab files from the archive. FTP clients are "smart" and can distinguish between binary and text files. They also automatically queue transfers. If you are using MacOS, try Fetch or Interarchy. If you are using Windows, try Filezilla.
If you must use a web browser, you are likely to get a screen full of gibberish when you click on the filenames. You must right-click (Windows) or click-and-hold (MacOS) and select "download link to disk" or "save link as" in order to save the MP3 to your hard drive. Windows users may also need to add .mp3 to the end of the filename when the download is complete.
When many people are "hitting" the server at the same time, it can be difficult for me to get necessary work done without delays. I may have to shut down the archive for short periods of time. I recognize that this is an inconvenience for you, but it is necessary. It is also another good reason to queue your downloads -- you will only lose one partial file at a time.
But you don't have to download the entire archive! There is an easier way.
You can obtain a copy of the Dan Bern Digital Archive on CD. Just write your postal address and your e-mail address on a slip of paper. Mail that paper along with US $2 for postage costs to:

Enjoy the tunes!
